A big part of going to the zoo is getting some kind of souvenir to take with you to remember your visit. There’s no shortage of stuffed animals, keepsake coins, or other pricey items you could purchase in the gift shop, but what about a piece of original art…made by none other than the animals themselves? That could be possible at the San Antonio Zoo, where a pair of hippos are creating unique rubber stamp artwork.
With the help of human assistants, the hippopotamuses get their noses all covered up with paint, then have a canvas pressed into the skin. It makes for a colorful wall hanging that comes with a fun story attached.
We only hope the zoo is paying these hippos for their hard work. After all, these are one-of-a-kind, original pieces. And by some standards, they’re just as creative as anything hanging in a modern art gallery, and definitely not something to turn your nose up at.
