Desperation is the mother of invention. Or is it the mother of a billboard campaign designed to convince your idol, Adam Sandler, to give you a job? Either way, we can relate.
As so many young upstarts know, landing your dream job takes forever. Unless your dream job happens to be working as a busboy at that Chili’s near the airport, working your way up the career ladder can take the better part of a decade (sometimes two). That’s why 23-year-old Charlotte Jolley is opting for the ultimate career hack: giant signage.
Jolley, whose favorite movies include 50 First Dates and The Waterboy, recently moved to Los Angeles after graduating from college. After toiling at the smelly foot of success mountain for what felt like months, Jolley was feeling the malaise of just starting out in life and began to contemplate giving up on her dream of working for Hollywood titan Adam Sandler when the impossible happened.
While fleeing to Hawaii, she bumped into a guy who told her Sandler had just been there the day before. Jolley took it as a sign and returned to LA more determined than ever. Like a woman obsessed, she began handing out flyers to anyone who would stop, telling them why Adam Sandler needed to give her a job. She even made a fan video stating her case.
That’s when she came up with a brilliant idea: Why hand out flyers when a few well-placed billboards will do?
Though Sandler has yet to call, we hope Jolley’s gambit pays off. After all, another LA legend once made a name for herself using a series of oddly placed billboards. And after just 30 short years, Angelyne got a (Peacock) mini-series made about her. Forget about a shortcut to success, that’s a freaking wormhole.
