Florida Is On The Verge Of Declaring Porn A ‘Public Health Risk’

Really, Florida? Out of all the problems plaguing your state, two girls online enjoying a fake penis in exchange for money is at the top of your list?

According to the Orlando Sentinel, lawmakers in Florida seriously believe that pornography is harming their constituents, so much so that all forms of smut are on the verge of being declared a public health risk.

“Research has found a correlation between pornography use and mental and physical illnesses, difficulty forming and maintaining intimate relationships, unhealthy brain development and cognitive function, and deviant, problematic or dangerous sexual behavior,” Republican Rep. Ross Spano said before the House Health & Human Services Committee Thursday afternoon.

Spano also held up a phone to hammer home his point that kids are now able to access pornography 24 hours a day, adding that “a child who views pornography is at a higher risk of developing low self-esteem, an eating disorder, and a desire to engage in dangerous sexual behavior.”

Of the 19 committee members, 18 were all for Spano’s resolution that calls for education, research and policy changes for Floridians. Apparently the only person with a fully-functioning brain on the committee is Republican Rep. Cary Pigman, who is…wait for it…a medical doctor.

“We have problems with hypertension, with obesity, with diabetes, with Zika,” Pigman said. “We have a whole list of things that are important medically. I’m not so sure that we need to spend legislative time annunciating a specific complaint when we have others that are far more pressing.”

Hear, hear! I’m with Pigman on this one. After I watch porn, I feel terrific and have an appetite for a complete breakfast, not low self-esteem and an eating disorder. I’d focus more on the lack of Sudafed at Florida pharmacies instead.
