The holidays are behind us and many people received DNA tests from various websites like Ancestry.com and 23andMe. Genealogy, generally finding out where your people are from, and learning if you have any long-long relatives is extremely popular. For most of us, the most exciting thing the test reveals is that our ancestors are from exotic locals we didn’t anticipate or we have a distant cousin in another part of the state we live in. But one Nebraska man who took a recent DNA test got a little more than he bargained for.

Quinten Saathoff, from Franklin, Nebraska, along with his brother, decided to take a DNA test from 23andMe. The hope was to learn a little bit about his ancestry. But what he found was astonishing.

And no, it wasn’t that his lineage could be traced back to a country he didn’t expect. He found out that he has 18 half-siblings he never knew about. Yes, you read that right. 18 siblings. Not cousins, aunts, or uncles. 18 brothers and sisters.

Apparently, unbeknownst to the brothers, they were conceived using a donor and that man also fathered 18 other children. Saathoff told local station NTV that he’s currently in the process of tracking down his various siblings. He’s found half-siblings in his home state of Nebraska as well as North Carolina, Texas, Maryland, and as far away as North Dakota.

We don’t know if this makes your want to take a DNA test more or less, but at least there’s the possibility of you meeting a new brother or sister you never knew existed. That could be pretty cool, right?
