Unions aren’t known for their sex appeal. But if a group of exotic dancers in Los Angeles gets their way, they might be. That’s because strippers at the Star Garden Topless Dive Bar in North Hollywood have announced that they plan to form a union, and if they manage to do so, they’ll be part of the only strip club in the U.S. to be unionized.
“When we stand together and demand our rights we are declaring proudly that our work is valuable and we deserve respect,” one of the group’s leaders who goes by the pseudonym Velveeta told BuzzFeed.
This all started in early spring, when management kicked two dancers to the curb for expressing concern over safety issues. The remaining exotic dancers voted to unionize. They then walked out and began picketing in front of the club to raise awareness over the aforementioned safety concerns. Just last week, they started negotiating with the club’s management for recognition. If they are successful, their labor organization will be known as Strippers United.
“Strippers are ready to have a ‘seat at the table’ and have a say in their workplace,” said Reagan, one of the dancers who was fired after expressing safety concerns to club management. “I’m hopeful that this is the beginning of a wave, and strippers start unionizing everywhere.”

If what these girls need is a bouncer, we’d be happy to negotiate an arrangement where we get unlimited, free access to the club in exchange for volunteering our braun. In lieu of that, we’ll satisfy ourselves by watching more footage of the sexiest picket line ever.
