Adam Perry Lang’s Last Day of BBQ in Hollywood

I’m a Kansas boy at heart.

I love great BBQ.  I don’t love BBQ, I love GREAT BBQ. And Los Angeles has the best for only FOUR MORE HOURS!

I’ve tried some of the BBQ that Los Angeles has to offer.  Some of it is modeled after the the spicy BBQ of the south, some after the Vinegar-laced BBQ of the southeast and some after my hometown Sweet BBQ, but not a single one has tasted unique.  That is, until I ventured to the lot behind Jimmy Kimmel Live in Hollywood and tasted the slow cooked (and by slow cooked I mean he has reinvented the art of slow cooking) BBQ of Adam Perry Lang.

I had the chance to spend some time with Adam and the guys from George Dickel Whiskey, tasting some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had.  No joke, it was amazing.  The magic is all in the process for Adam.  Not only does he slow cook his meat, he, for lack of a better term, slow cooks his charcoal.  Allow me to elaborate… In layman terms of course, because even though I know what tastes good, I’m no cooking expert… He creates his own wood-brickets in one of these things:

(I’m told it’s called a Texas Burn Pit…)

And then he shovels the burning embers into his massive slow-cooker to cook an array of delicious meats like Pork Shoulder, Beef Short Ribs, Brisket and even Halibut.  It’s quite amazing.  I know I’ve said amazing too many times, but deal with it.  If you had this BBQ you would over use the word too.

So how did he end up in the lot behind Jimmy Kimmel Live? Well, it’s a bit of a long story, but here’s the short version:  Jimmy and Adam met a few years back and developed a friendship based on a mutual love of food.  Seriously they both love food a whole bunch.  After time in NYC, Vegas and over seas, Adam decided it was time to bring his amazing BBQ to Los Angeles.  Jimmy being the awesome friend (and selfish food lover who probably only cared about getting his hands on more BBQ) he is, set Adam up with an awesome location right behind his studio.  It’s a pretty sweet set up:

And yes, that’s a bad ass George Dickel Whiskey lounge right next to BBQ heaven.  Adam chose George Dickel Whiskey to pair with his BBQ because he felt the same amount of care and craftsmanship he put into his food was poured into every bottle of Dickel.  You can tell when you taste it.

So the moral of the story is, Adam Perry Lang’s Serious Barbeque is amazing and George Dickel Whiskey is the best way to kick back and enjoy thinking about what awesome food you just ate.

Unfortunately, there’s only FOUR HOURS left before the temporary installment of Adam Perry Lang’s Back Lot BBQ packs up!  Yes, we’re going to do everything we can to convince Adam to stay in LA, but for the time being, stop reading this article and get your ass to Jimmy Kimmel Live’s back lot!

GO!  Jimmy said so…  And this was his lunch yesterday…
