New Still Image From Upcoming Matthew McConaughey Film

Matthew McConaughey is doing pretty damned well for himself lately, what with his success at the Oscars and films like Interstellar wowing everyone and what not, but it seems he’s not slowing down.

The Free State Of Jones (based on the true story of Confederate soldier Newton Knight) will show his character deserting from the Confederate army and looking to secede from the southern separatist states entirely, forming his own mixed-race community within Jones County, Mississippi. Naturally, the Confederate mucky-mucks didn’t like that very much, not even because he deserted necessarily, but because he deserted, seceded, and then formed a community that was likely representative of what the South was fighting against. This is surely going to be a movie with plenty of emotional and graphic drama that deftly toes the line of some sociopolitical issues that are in the news today, like involvement in wars and racism. Time will tell if this is yet another potential Oscar contender for McConaughey.

The film is slated for a 2016 release.
