Prepare for Halloween with Spooky, Boozy Recipes

October is here — or Rocktober or Shocktober or whatever derivation you prefer. As a result, you can expect a steady stream of themed coverage ranging from Halloween and parties to football and tailgating all month long.

We’ll start off with Halloween today and some spooky-themed cocktails from Prairie Spirits. I don’t mean the ghost Laura Ingalls Wilder sent in some recipes. The people behind Prairie Organic Spirits provided the following cocktails, perfect for sipping while you’re determining which kids’ costumes deserve the most candy for trick or treat.

Frightful Fizz

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Prairie Organic Gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • Splash of club soda
  • Handful of mint

Directions: Muddle mint in shaker. Add gin, lemon juice and syrup to shaker. Add ice. Shake. Keep shaking. Then strain into a highball glass and add a splash of soda water. Garnish with a sprig of mint.  

Ghoulish Glow

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Prairie Organic Vodka
  • ½ oz raspberry liqueur
  • 2 oz fresh (golden) grapefruit juice
  • ¼ oz simple syrup

Directions: Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist and a petite strawberry on the rim.  

Monster Mojito

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Prairie Cucumber Flavored Vodka
  • 1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 6 fresh mint leaves

Directions: Muddle mint, sugar and lime juice in a Collins glass. Fill with ice, add vodka and top with soda water. Shake or mix and garnish with a cucumber wedge.
