Meanwhile in LA: 2 Cops Fired For Ignoring Robbery to Chase Pokémon, Would Have Gotten Away With It If Not For That Meddling Snorlax

A California court has ruled that two LAPD officers who ignored a robbery call to search for a Snorlax in Pokémon Go will continue to be fired. Officers Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell were being recorded by a digital in-car video system (DICVS) when they decided to catch a Pokémon after not responding to a robbery on Saturday, April 15, 2017. And they would have gotten away with it if not for that meddling Snorlax.

Court documents reveal that the Pokémon cops were on foot patrol that fateful day. During their patrol, they received a call for backup to respond to an active robbery with multiple suspects at a nearby mall. But instead of coming to help, they would do what any good police officer would do – leave the scene.

When their sergeant asked about their failure to respond to the call, they claimed that they hadn’t heard it because there was “a lot of music” and it was “really loud in the park”. Thankfully, the sergeant decided to review the tape. The video revealed that they not only were parked near the mall but actually debated whether to answer it. To make matters even worse, they radioed in to say they were somewhere else to justify not responding to the call.

Meanwhile, the Pokémon Cops went on the expedition of a lifetime. A detective conducting an investigation on the dynamic duo reportedly found even more incriminating information. In a nutshell, they spent about 20 minutes driving around LA, talking about Pokémon, and of course, pursuing the illustrious Snorlax. During that time, a Togetic also appeared, which they agree to capture afterward.

Lozano and Mitchell appealed their eventual firings, arguing that their rights had been violated. Um, can someone explain the constitution to these people? Luckily for the general public, the court system prevailed. However, the worst part of the saga of the Pokémon Cops is that it only took 5 years for them to lose their jobs. Until next time, America.
